1. HOW ARE HOURLY RECS DIFFERENT FROM MONTHLY RECS?
All RECs, whether Hourly or Monthly, represent 1MWh of generated energy each. Hourly RECs have additional granular data indicating the day and hour of electricity production upon which they are based. NAR Hourly RECs also support fractional issuance. See below for more information.
2. IN WHAT GEOGRAPHIES WILL HOURLY DATA BE AVAILABLE?
Hourly RECs will be available for NAR-registered generators that can provide meter data in hourly granularity. This also includes both SPP and MISO.
3. ARE THERE CHANGES IN HOW TO USE NAR FOR HOURLY RECS?
Yes. Hourly REC functions are accessible via a separate set of links on the main NAR menu. An updated NAR user guide for Hourly REC program participants is available.
4. HOW IS THE NAR HOURLY PROGRAM DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PROGRAMS?
NAR supports Hourly RECs natively, including the ability to view full or summarized data in the holdings screens, plus the ability to partially or fully transfer and retire Hourly RECs.
5. ARE RECURRING TRANSFERS AVAILABLE FOR HOURLY RECs?
Although recurring transfers for Hourly RECs are not yet supported, this functionality is on our roadmap.
6. WILL HOURLY RECS BE PRICED DIFFERENTLY FROM MONTHLY RECS?
No. The issuance, transfer, and retirement fees remain the same (yet subject to change).
7. HOW DO ACCOUNT HOLDERS DISTINGUISH BETWEEN HOURLY RECS AND MONTHLY RECS?
Hourly REC functions are accessible via a separate set of links on the main NAR menu. An updated NAR user guide for Hourly REC program participants is available.
8. HOW MANY ROWS OF TRANSFERS WILL BE POSSIBLE?
Users will have the ability to select all holdings at once. If users need to transfer a portion of their holdings, users can select each page separately, with page size being up to 500 certificate batches.
9. HOW WILL CERTIFICATE TRANSFER REPORTS BE IMPACTED?
There is a separate set of reports for Hourly REC transfers and retirements.
10. HOW DO GENERATOR OWNERS OPT IN INTO THE HOURLY PROGRAM IN NAR?
Please reach out to the NAR Registry Administrator.
11. WILL FRACTIONAL REC ISSUANCE BE SUPPORTED FOR HOURLY RECS?
Yes. Fractional RECs are based on the granularity available from the meter data. NAR will support decimal RECs with the precision of 5 decimal points.
Fractional RECs behave the same way as “full” RECs. They have their own serial number, and they can be transferred and retired.
However, fractional RECs or “full” RECs cannot be split further. So for example, if a batch contains 2.5 RECs, then the number transferred or retired can only be 1 REC, 2 RECs, or 2.5 RECs.
12. CAN I TRANSFER JUST A SUBSET OF THE HOURLY RECS MINTED FOR A CERTAIN MONTH?
Yes.
13. HOW IS THE DATA DISPLAYED IN ONE’S ACCOUNT?
Each batch of RECs associated with a specific hour of production will be displayed on its own row.
14. ANYTHING ADDITIONAL WE’D NEED TO PROVIDE TO EFFECTUATE PROCESS (HOURLY GEN REPORTS, ETC.)?
Yes, generation owners need to deliver meter data to the QRE with hourly granularity.
15. CAN BTM GENERATORS PARTICIPATE IN THE HOURLY REC PROGRAM?
No.
16. CAN HOURLY REC PROGRAM PARTICPATION BE APPLIED TO ONLY ONE GENERATOR IN AN ACCOUNT, LEAVING THE REMAINING GENERATORS ON THE MONTHLY PROGRAM?
Yes.
